Aileen is a UKCP-registered psychodynamic psychotherapist, MBACP-registered counsellor, and qualified clinical supervisor in private practice. She is a full professional member of the Forum for Independent Psychotherapists (FIP) and the Black, African and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN).

The Riverside Therapy Practice is based at Newhaven Marina and is led by Aileen, who has more than 30 years’ experience across the helping professions. She works psychotherapeutically with adults experiencing a wide range of psychological, emotional and mental health difficulties. Aileen also provides high-quality clinical supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists and practice managers across the helping professions.

Aileen’s practice is grounded in a broad and diverse professional background. Initially trained in both psychiatric and general nursing, she later held a senior management position in a psychotherapeutic residential community in Kent in the 1970s. She then trained as a therapist at Goldsmiths' College, University of London, and completed her Master’s degree at the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education. She subsequently developed specialist experience in alcohol and drug addiction, HIV/AIDS and student counselling, working across NHS and voluntary-sector settings in London.

Aileen continued her professional development by training as a psychotherapist at the University of Hertfordshire and as a clinical supervisor at WPF (Westminster Pastoral Foundation). In 2006, she was awarded a Doctorate in Psychotherapy by Professional Studies at Middlesex University and the Metanoia Institute, with her research examining Black workers’ experiences of workplace stress.

Aileen established her private practice in 1990 and has since worked with a culturally and socially diverse clientele.

Alongside her psychotherapy and clinical supervision practice, Aileen is an author whose work explores race, cultural difference and diversity in psychotherapy, clinical practice and the wider helping professions.
